Jonesboro is located in the lower Mississippi Valley Region of the United States. It is the largest city in Northeast Arkansas, the fourth largest city in the state, with a population of approximately 50,000. With rich farmland and the rolling foothills of Crowley's Ridge surrounding it, Jonesboro is the best of both worlds, combining the benefits of living in a metropolis with the comfort of small-town life.

Jonesboro has something for everyone and every family. Affordable housing and quiet neighborhoods, close ties between local churches and their surrounding communities, and the natural beauty of the area make it an ideal place to build a home or raise a family.

Located at the edge of a major rice-growing area, some say that the best duck hunting in the world is found in and around Jonesboro. In the summer, there are many lakes to enjoy fishing, boating and swimming, as well as city parks, and a golf and tennis club. A big statewide event, which comes to Jonesboro each year in September, is The Northeast Arkansas District fair and Rodeo.

Jonesboro is very proud of its relationship with the business community. Jonesboro's central location, dedicated workforce, the city's industrial parks and the municipal airport are the reason companies like Haworth Corporation, Armour Swift-Eckrich, Post General Foods and BP Chemicals have made Jonesboro their home. Jonesboro has both a low unemployment rate (4% compared with a 5.8% national average) and a very low income tax rate (ranging from 1 to 4%).

Jonesboro is proud of its school system, which is above the national average across the board. Jonesboro realizes that the best investment to a bright and prosperous future for the city is to provide the best education to all of its children. Three of the public schools in Jonesboro were among only 144 throughout the country to be recognized and honored with the Presidential Awards for Excellence.

A University town, Jonesboro is home to Arkansas State University, and to all the exciting sporting events, major concerts and stage shows that the 10,500-seat convocation Center will hold. Annual events such as the Christmas parade and the Lights on the Ridge events during the holiday season (where over two million twinkling lights are on display) and the Main Street Jonesboro Celebration make the changing of the seasons special. The Forum, a beautifully restored theater, hosts Broadway productions, as well as concerts by The Northeast Arkansas Symphony.

Jonesboro residents have access to health care services provided by more than hundreds of skilled physicians, many of whom are specialists in their fields. The two acute care hospitals, St. Bernards Regional Medical Center and Regional Medical Center of NEA, offer services generally found in much larger cities. In addition, facilities for psychiatric and chemical dependency, and physical rehabilitation are located in Jonesboro, as well as a wide range of retirement communities.
